North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic

At North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic, we focus on providing exceptional, emergency veterinary care to the dogs and cats of San Mateo, San Francisco, and other local Bay Area communities so you can rest at ease knowing your pet is healthy and happy.

Emergency Services Available

North Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic was established in 1973 by thirty-three peninsula veterinarians who decided that 24-hour patient care should be available for their patients. We consider ourselves a family and hope that if the time ever comes when you need our services, you too will join our extended family!

Not all pet injuries and illnesses require emergency veterinary services. However, if your pet is experiencing a pet health emergency, please call or visit our animal hospital right away.

An endoscopy is a highly useful medical imaging tool used to examine certain organs or organ systems of your pet without actually performing surgery. To perform an endoscopy, your veterinarian uses a thin tubular instrument with a small camera on the end – called an endoscope – and inserts it into an opening of the body.

NPVEC Overnight Monitoring package includes exam, 12-hour block in our hospital with fluid management (fluids supplied by the referring veterinarian), pain management—antibiotics (up to 4 injections) or oral medications as prescribed by the referring veterinarian (if indicated) and PCV/TS (if necessary).

Our medical team has advanced diagnostic tools to assist in identifying the specific problem your pet may be suffering from and to obtain vital measurements to aid in diagnoses.

Open 24/7. Even on Holidays.

We maintain close personal relationships with local veterinarians and routinely work with them to provide the most comprehensive care available. We have been servicing this community for over 40 years and in 2011 underwent an extensive renovation. The hospital was renovated to provide a beautiful, state-of-the-art hospital. Our hospital was designed to provide a calm and comfortable environment for you and your pet.

Veterinary Advice

When your veterinarian suggests lab work for your dog, it can raise alarms that something is seriously wrong. However, laboratory work is critical in identifying what may be causing your dog to feel ill and is necessary for establishing values in a healthy dog to help identify problems.

This vet did amazing things for my pet rabbit. He was disabled by a back injury, and I thought he was going to die, but Dr. Luehman helped him recover function in his lower body and even the ability to hop around a bit! The staff is incredibly responsive and helpful, and the vet techs know how to handle a rabbit correctly. I would definitely recommend these folks if your rabbit has an emergency.

Dr Wolf and his staff were absolutely fantastic in our time of need. We brought our cat in, as he was critically ill and in the end we had to euthanize him. We felt the compassion of all the staff in our time of need for which we will never forget! TY all so much!

Took my dog here for an emergency visit after he was exhibiting signs of what looked like a stroke. Dr. Luehman was able to quickly take a look at my dog who ended up having a vestibular disease. Really appreciated how quick I was able to talk to Dr. Luehman. The staff and service here are great and my dog was well taken care of.

Dr Giger is the very best and his nurse incredible. It's terrible when your pet is sick. It's a relief to know and trust your vet. ! I am so lucky my dog was in pain and they fixed him. I can't thank them enough!!

My shepherd mix got a foxtail in her nose so we ended up here to have it removed one evening. The team was amazingly caring and gentle, even with my very nervous girl. While I had to leave her overnight, she is right as rain now and I am most grateful for the wonderful care she received. They even trimmed her nails For me. We are blessed to to have this 24/7 service close to us for our fur babies.

My little one had a large amount of cluster seizures and I drove all the way from the East Bay to North Pen. One of their lovely technicians, Erin met me there (on her day off I might add) and the doctors and staff made her well again. Erin stayed with her until she was stable. It helped that they accepted Care Credit although the charges were NOT through the roof. I trust this emergency hospital completely. Thank you 🙏🏼 for saving lil Babu

Matthew Lender, JD, LLM (Taxation), MBA, CPA

FOUNDER

Matt Lender was literally born into the veterinary profession; both his sister and late father are/were renowned veterinarians. Growing up around a successful veterinary practice, Matt went on to become a lifelong student of business, finance, and the law.

Matt earned his BA from McDaniel College with a double major in Economics and Business Administration. He went on to earn both an MBA and JD from Quinnipiac University School of Business and Quinnipiac University School of Law, respectively. Matt also earned a Master of Law (LLM) in Taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law. He is a licensed CPA in Maryland and Connecticut.

Coming back full circle to his beginnings in animal health, Matt effectively leveraged his business and legal training and his expertise as a financial services executive to build upon his father’s legacy, Orange Veterinary Hospital. Together with Dr. Scott Crawford, they grew that one hospital to 16 practices in a very short amount of time. From there Matt, Scott and Dr. Michael Tuder became the founding members of United Veterinary Care.

More recently, Scott and his partner, Matt Lender, amassed a group of 16 veterinary hospitals, which they leveraged to form United Veterinary Care (UVC). Together, he and Matt, along with Dr. Michael Tuder, became the founding members of UVC.
